What this service is
Access scaffolding is the catch-all category — a properly designed, properly inspected scaffold that exists to give a trade safe access at height. It overlaps with residential and commercial scaffolding, but the framing is different: the brief usually starts with the trade ("I'm painting / rendering / fitting windows / inspecting") rather than with the building.
Most of our access scaffolding clients are independent trades and small contractors who book us repeatedly because their insurance, their CSCS card and their day rate all assume a properly built scaffold to work from. They don't need the smallest possible price — they need the right platform, on the day they're booked.
Lift heights are matched to the trade. A painter wants the working surface roughly chest-high to the work, a renderer wants it slightly lower, a window installer wants the cill at waist height. We adjust per trade rather than imposing a generic 2m lift.

What goes wrong when it's rushed
Trades often inherit access scaffolds that were "good enough" for the previous trade and not redesigned for them. The result is poor productivity, safety concerns and arguments over who pays for the alteration. Sized properly first time, it's never an issue.
How we deliver this service

We talk to you (or your trade) about the work, the heights and the duration. The scaffold is designed around the job, not the building.
Free site visit within 48 hours; written quote with weekly hire rate, erection date and any licence requirements.
Standard access scaffolds are typically up in a day. Boarded, handrailed, toeboarded, scaftagged.
Statutory 7-day inspections logged. Tag updated, copies emailed to you.
When you're done, one call to off-hire — we strike inside 48 hours and stop the hire clock the day you call.
What you actually get
Working surface set where your trade actually works — not at a generic standard height.
By the week, no four-week minimum, no surprise extension rate.
On most domestic access jobs, we don't bill a chargeable week-five if the trade overruns by a few days.
Site visits typically within 48 hours of enquiry; quote inside 24 hours of survey.
Statutory 7-day inspections logged and tagged — your trade insurance is comfortable working from it.
Sweep on completion, fittings collected, ground left as found.
In detail
Access scaffolding is one of the easiest things to under-spec, because the brief from the building owner often only covers length and storey count. The detail — board widths, lift heights, edge protection, material storage — needs to come from the trade who's actually going to work from it.
We've spent enough time talking to local trades to know the typical specs. Painters want one or two-board lifts at chest height, renderers want two-board lifts with mortar-bucket clearance, window installers want bay-specific scaffolds with material storage at sill height, and surveyors want quick safe access without scope creep.
Painters: 1.7–1.9m below the work face. Renderers: 1.4–1.6m. Window installers: aligned to sill height. Inspectors / surveyors: comfortable standing height with a clear sight line to the work.
Standard 2-board (450mm) for most trades. 3-board (650mm) for renderers and any trade storing materials at the lift. 4-board where double-handed material handling is needed.
Guardrail, intermediate rail and toeboard as standard. Brick guards added for any trade working above a public area or shared surface.
Weekly billing, off-hire on a single phone call, hire clock stops the day you call rather than the day we collect.
