Spartan Scaffolding is a CISRS-carded, NASC-compliant scaffolding contractor working across Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and North London. We started in 2014 with one van and a single residential job near Bishop's Stortford. We now run multiple crews and erect more than 150 scaffolds a year — every one of them signed off by a named supervisor.

Our story
From one van to a regional crew.
Spartan was founded in 2014 by Lewis Hatcher after a decade working as a CISRS scaffolder for two of the region's larger contractors. The frustration was always the same: clients quoted late, jobs starting two weeks after the day promised, supervisors who never came back to site.
The model is the same now as it was then: a named supervisor on every job, written quotes within four working hours, and an erect day we actually keep. We specialise in residential, temporary roof and chimney scaffolds, plus commercial and heritage work for builders and surveyors who need a contractor that signs off in writing.
We cover a 35-mile radius of our yard in Elsenham — that means Bishop's Stortford, Hertford, Braintree and Harlow for residential, with commercial and re-roofing work running into Chelmsford, Cambridge, Stevenage, Saffron Walden and across the M11 corridor into Enfield.

No site signed off without a handover sheet.
Every Spartan scaffold is erected to NASC TG20:21 with a written design or compliance sheet. Every operative holds a current CISRS card. Every job ends with a signed handover, photographs, and a 7-day weekly statutory inspection schedule logged in writing.

Every standard scaffold designed to current NASC guidance, with bespoke designs by an in-house engineer above 8m or for unusual loadings.
CISRS-only labour
We do not use uncarded labour. Every operative on your site carries a current, photographic CISRS card we can show you.
Weekly inspections
Statutory 7-day inspections logged on Scaffmag, signed by your supervisor, copy emailed to you within 24 hours.
Erect-day guarantee
If we miss the agreed erect day for any reason on our side, hire is free until we're up. Written into the quote.
